The Autonomous Community of the Basque Country is governed by the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country (‘Estatuto de Autonomía del País Vasco’), which was approved by Basic Law 3/1979 of 18 December 1979 of the Cortes Generales (BOE No 306 of 22 December 1979, ‘the Statute of Autonomy’).

Article 1 of the Statute of Autonomy for the Basque Country adopts the official term ‘Euskadi or País Vasco’ to describe the Spanish autonomous community in question.

Indeed, Article 41.1 of the Autonomy Statute of the Basque Country of 1979 (Organic Law 3/1979 of December 18) states: “The relations of a tax character between the State and the Basque Country will be regulated through the traditional foral system of Economic Agreement or Contracts”.
