Materials and Methods: a descriptive study was carried out in Bogotá, in three laboratories that produce the coating. Five lenses from each laboratory made of CR-39 (allyl diglycol carbonate) were subjected to boiling test with 5% of sodium chloride (NaCl) and abrasion test in the Lens Coat® Lab.
Materiales y métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo en tres laboratorios fabricantes de dicho revestimiento, en la ciudad de Bogotá, para esto se sometieron cinco lentes de cada laboratorio de material CR- 39 (carbono de allyl di glicol) a las pruebas de Ebullición de 5% de cloruro de sodio (NaCl) y abrasión, en el laboratorio de Lens Coat®.

In May 1940 the research work resulted in the monomer allyl diglycol carbonate (ADC). In the following years more than 180 different compounds of this monomer were investigated and examined. The 39th tested turned out to be the most significant due to its unique properties and was later used for the production of plastic lenses.
