The area of Lafões, extended to the three mountain ranges that flank the River Vouga (the Caramulo, Gralheira and Montemuro ranges), has specific characteristics as regards climate, soil and relief. It also has a microclimate (as a transition point between maritime and continental climates) which makes it well suited to the growth of a number of species of trees and a shrubby-herbaceous vegetation, with a concentration of species such as broom, heather, common and other gorse, and rockrose trees which are used for animals to graze and which nutritionally give the meat its particular features.
La región de Lafões, que engloba las tres sierras que flanquean el río Vouga (Serra do Caramulo, Gralheira y Montemuro) posee características climáticas, edáficas y orográficas específicas y un microclima (de transición entre oceánico y continental) que ofrece las condiciones necesarias para la presencia de determinadas especies arbóreas y para el crecimiento de una vegetación herbácea — arbustiva con predominio de especies como retamas, brezos, tojos, codesos y jaras, utilizadas como pasto para los animales, que por sus características nutricionales confieren características muy peculiares a la carne.EurLex-2 EurLex-2
