The soil is notable for its great uniformity, deriving from the Cretaceous-era limestone on which layers of limestone from the Tertiary period are laid down with calcareous, sandy and argillaceous deposits from the Pliocene and Pleistocene periods, with brown or red soils, often found in alternate layers, resting on a limestone base.
