3 Az 1949. augusztus 12‐i négy genfi egyezmény, vagyis a hadrakelt fegyveres erők sebesültjei és betegei helyzetének javításáról szóló I. egyezmény, a tengeri haderők sebesültjei, betegei és hajótöröttei helyzetének javításáról szóló II. egyezmény, a hadifoglyokkal való bánásmódról szóló III. egyezmény, és a polgári lakosság háború idején való védelméről szóló IV. egyezmény (kihirdette az 1954. évi 32. törvényerejű rendelet) (a továbbiakban: négy genfi egyezmény) közös 3. cikke a következőképpen rendelkezik:
