Trying to maintain information in working memory is much like the efforts of entertainers who juggle several items. Baddeley proposed that it is the same situation with respect to working memory. If we try to keep too many items in working memory, by the time we get back to rehearse the first one, it will have decayed to the point that it takes too long to retrieve and rehearse. Baddeley proposed that we can keep about 1.5 to 2.0 seconds’ worth of material rehearsed in the articulatory loop.
