In support of this we find that lexicons of the Greek language define a·selʹgei·a (and other forms of this word) as describing: “outrageous acts,” “licentiousness, wanton violence,” “insolence,” “vulgar abuse,” “brutal[ity]” (Liddell and Scott); “excess, intemperance, in any thing, e.g. language, conduct, insolence” (Robinson); “unbridled lust, . . . outrageousness, shamelessness” (Thayer); “wanton lawless insolence” (Trench).
