The word "peace" to a follower of the Hebrew Scriptures ("shalom" in that language) meant a state of being where one is healthy, whole and content. This peace could only be achieved when a person was also right with God, so it required that one follow the will of God, sincerely confess their sin when they failed and receive God's merciful forgiveness.
