Recently I saw some thoughts from someone inside the language community saying how ‘it’s not yet possible to raise a child in the language and that there isn’t yet a child raised in the language’. That’s not the way to encourage people to try. I was surprised to see this because I know of people raised to speak Cornish. But this did no more than to fuel my hope to continue on as well and I hope Neythen will not be the only child of his generation speaking Cornish.

Luke 14 Round a Pharisee's Table 1And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him. 2And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy. 3And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? 4And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go; 5and answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? 6And they could not answer him again to these things. 7And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them, 8When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; 9and he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. 10But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. 11For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. 12Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. 13But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: 14and thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

Dyskans dhe Westoryon ha dhe Ost 7Hag ev a gewsis parabolenn dhe'n westoryon re bia gelwys, pan verkyas fatell dhewisens an kynsa tylleryow, ha leverel dhedha, 8‘Pan vi gelwys gans nebonan dhe dhemmedhyans, na esedh y'n kynsa tyller, rag own den moy enorys agesos dhe vos gelwys ganso, 9ha neb a'gas gelwis agas dew a lever dhis, “Doro an tyller dhe'n den ma”, hag ena ty a gans ankombrynsi dhe gemmeres an tyller isella. 10Mes pan vi gelwys, ke dhe esedha y'n tyller isella, rag may lavarro dhis neb a'th elwis, “Koweth, gwra mos yn-bann dhe dyller ughella”; ena y fydh dhis bri a-rag oll an dus yw esedhys genes. 11Rag peub neb a omughelha a vydh dres isel, ha neb a omiselha a vydh ughelhes.’ 12Ena yn-medh ev dhe'n den a wrussa y elwel, ‘Pan rylli li po soper, na wra gelwel dha gowetha na'th vreder na'th neskerens na'th kentrevogyon rych, rag own i dhe'th elwel arta, hag y fydh dhis attal. 13Mes pan wredh kevewi, galw an voghosogyon, an evredhyon, an gloppogyon, an dhellyon; 14ha gwynnvys ty a vydh, rag ny yllons ri attal dhis; rag attal a vydh res dhis yn dasserghyans an re wiryon.’

1If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people? 2Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? 3Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! 4Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church? 5I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? 6But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers!

We were there in numbers—and I was impressed with how organised the antifascists were. I was also impressed with the number of people who turned up from all different groups and walks of life. The vast majority of people on our side lived in Newquay, or were Cornish, or both. Which is not to say solidarity from upcountry is not welcome and appreciated!

“Good morning Neythi, how did you sleep?” I say as I go gently into my son’s room about half six in the morning. We are lucky he sleeps so well but I must wake him in order to feed him and then put him back to sleep before I go to work to allow him and my partner to get a little extra sleep. 47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him. 50 Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.”[d] Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. 52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?” 55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.
