According to the Cornish and Devon Post for 24th March 1928, the Slaters' victory against Millbrook was neither easy nor quick. Cecil Thomas was the Captain in this hard game, in which Delabole eventually prevailed 3-2. There were highly complimentary references to the goalkeeper Portas, and the centre-half Colvell. As Thomas received the Cup on behalf of the team, he said that the Slaters had been fighting to gain this prize for thirty years,. When the team returned to Delabole, they marched through the streets preceded by the Ex-servicemen's band playing the Floral Dance.
