On the other hand, the ‘country method’, which uses a coefficient that tends to be somewhere between the cost of living in the capital and that in less ‘expensive’ parts of the Member State, may to some extent penalise residents of the more expensive areas in the State: however, since a single correction coefficient must be chosen for each Member State, the ‘country method’ is, in my view, not only entirely legitimately practicable but also in some respects more equitable.
