Soon thereafter, a handful of Dakotas were gifted to the airline by the US Government, the formal handover being made to Ganesh Man Singh as Transportation Minister in BP Koirala’s cabinet. These would have been World War II surplus aircraft used for the transport of soldiers and war material, including for the famous sorties ‘over the Hump’ of the South Asian Northeast. (In all, more than 16,000 of the DC-3s and their military counterpart, the C-47, were produced.) RNAC was a well-managed pioneering airline with the Dakota as its flagship and workhorse, with individual aircraft given names like Himal Chuli, Manasulu, Makalu and Langtang.

Aung San Suu Kyi knows the north of Southasia well, having lived in Delhi when her mother Khin Kyi was ambassador to Jawaharlal Nehru’s New Delhi. She also lived in Bhutan with her late husband, the scholar Michael Aires, and she was hosted in Kathmandu by the statesman and social democrat BP Koirala, a friend of her father Aung San (who provided Koirala with arms to fight Nepal’s Rana regime, which were flown to Bihar by the maverick Orissan leader Biju Patnaik before being delivered to Nepal). Suu Kyi left Burma for the first time in 24 years for a short visit to Thailand in early June 2012.

What have poetry and fictions been saying about a transborder way of life? How are pre-national memories reconciled within nationalist discourses to make way for a post- or trans-national future? How can anthropology to borrow from and lend to these literary imaginations? Although Nepal was unified as a nation-state over two and half a century ago, it underwent several national transitions questioning what it meant to be a Nepali. I try to make sense of such national dilemmas through an anthropological reading of a selected body of novels penned by two of Nepal’s most prominent writers – BP Koirala and Parijat. BP Koirala’s novels look at the ironies of life in the interstices of nation. He writes about rebellious and nomadic moments of everyday life that cannot be contained within the fixity of national boundaries and structures.

For long, since the days of BP Koirala in the 1950s, Nepal was ‘protected’ by the friendly contact between the Indian and Nepali freedom-fighter democrats. This is now history, with New Delhi’s Nepal policy ‘outsourced’ into the hands, first of the apparatchiks and now the field agents. With the civilian observers in New Delhi either unaware or uncaring, today there is open involvement of the ‘Indian hand’ in Kathmandu, and what seems suspiciously like an attempt to establish a client regime. India’s involvement in Kathmandu politics goes back to 1947 and Jawaharlal Nehru, but today there is not even the pretence of decorum.

Some essay explores writer's critical evaluation on well applauded books of Nepali literary history i.e. Modi Aain, Sirish ko Fuul and Aama ra Yamduutharu written by BP Koirala, Paarijaat and Khagendra Sangraula respectively. The essays are not ordered well. If the essays of identical issues would have been placed respectively, the readers would feel easy in enjoying the essays. Moreover there lacks some need of skillful editing.

The nun, unconscious after the incident, was admitted to the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and then to a hospital in India’s border town of Siliguri. They made Benaras, Calcutta, Dehradun, Darjeeling and the Eastern parts of India their centres of refuge and learning and other activities. Between 1930 to 1990 hundreds of them had their shelter in India—from Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota to BP Koirala, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Ganeshman Singh, Tarini Koirala, Manmohan Adhikari, Pushpalal and many more endured untold suffering in those days. Many people including B P Koirala joined India’s movement for freedom and even suffered imprisonment. It is in one of such dark ages that Motiram Bhatta studied in both Benaras and Calcutta, and came in contact with Bharatendu Harischandra, learnt the long tradition of ghazal composition and introduced it into Nepali. Gradually Hindi and Bengali literature served as the base for Nepali, especially fiction in the beginning.
