This symbolic area is also used by native and visiting species of birds such as stonechats, Egyptian vultures, trumpeter finches, cream-coloured coursers, plovers, turnstones, dunlins, egrets, herons and flamingos as a stopping-off point, to rest and to nest.

Despite the proceedings referred to above, within the Barranco de los Molinas-Llanos de la Laguna (IBA) 347, in the district of Puerto de Rosario on the island of Fuerteventura, real estate developments are being carried out which involve over 50 chalets (each on a site of 10000 m2), affecting the habitat of protected Steppe species such as the houbara bustard, the cream-coloured courser and the stone-curlew.
Ondanks deze feiten wordt in de Important Bird Area IBA 347 Barranco de los Molinos-Llanos de la Laguna, op het grondgebied van de gemeente Puerto de Rosario, op het eiland Fuerteventura, een urbanisatieproject ten uitvoer gelegd dat de bouw van 50 chalets (voor elk chalet een terrein van 10000 m2) behelst, en waardoor de habitat van beschermde steppesoorten zoals de kraagtrap, het loopvarken en de griel wordt aangetast.

The work violates two European directives, namely that on birds, since the area is a nesting ground for and home to numerous species listed in Annex I of the Directive (particularly the houbara bustard, cream-coloured courser, stone curlew, Canary Islands stonechat, trumpeter finch, black-bellied sandgrouse, Barbary partridge, Barbary falcon, spoonbill, and Kentish plover) and the habitat directive, because six types of habitat which appear in Annex I to that Directive(1) are affected.
De werkzaamheden zijn met twee Europese richtlijnen in strijd, te weten de richtlijn inzake het behoud van de vogelstand, aangezien in het gebied veel vogels broeden en wonen die in bijlage 1 van de genoemde richtlijn voorkomen (te weten onder meer de kraagtrap, renvogel, griel, Canarische rooborsttapuit, woestijnvink, zwartbuikzandhoen, barbarijse patrijs, slechtvalk, lepelaar en strandplevier), en de richtlijn inzake de instandhouding van de natuurlijke habitats en de wilde flora en fauna, aangezien het gaat om zes habitattypes die in bijlage 1 van de richtlijn(1) voorkomen.
