Within the framework of Council Regulation (EEC) 793/93 of 23 March 1993(1) on the evaluation and control of the risks of existing substances, MTBE was put on a priority list of chemicals for evaluation of the risks to man and the environment (cf. Commission Regulation (EC) No 143/97(2)).
