Back in Mexico, researchers have recently been trying to isolate the seed’s protein to produce amaranth milk, a beverage similar in nutritional value to cow’s milk.
On September 29, 2006, Amaranth's founder sent a letter to fund investors notifying them of the fund's suspension and on October 1, 2006, Amaranth hired the Fortress Investment Group to liquidate its assets.
The News of Mexico City said: “In one of their many rituals, the Aztecs would dip a piece of amaranth bread in the blood of one of their captured and [slain] enemies and eat it.”
On 13 June Nightwish released the title, Dark Passion Play, and artwork to the new album on their official website, as well as the name and the cover of the second single (this time CD), "Amaranth".
It is the same song as the instrumental “Last of the Wilds” from the band's album Dark Passion Play, but with Finnish lyrics and Jonsu from Indica on vocals, and became the third single of the album after “Amaranth”.
To address the challenges of nutritional deficiencies in poor rural areas, FAO and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) have supported local projects in numerous countries to establish and maintain home gardens producing species such as quinoa, millet, amaranth, leafy vegetables and some groundnuts, which have also resulted in income-generating activities for women.
