The Special Rapporteur, during his induction visit to Geneva from 11 to 14 September 2005, held meetings with Heads of Branches and other relevant units of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights with a view to ensuring smooth coordination; with a number of non-governmental organizations, such as Amnesty International, the Organisation Mondiale contre la Torture, the Association for the Prevention of Torture and the International Commission of Jurists; and with representatives of several Permanent Missions in Geneva, such as those of Finland, Mexico, Norway, the Philippines, Tunisia, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United States of America.

In this regard, we should like to thank the Permanent Missions of Austria, Mexico and the United Kingdom for having convened an Arria Formula meeting on 19 October, which allowed us to learn more about the work being carried out by various organizations on the ground and to gain a better understanding of the scope and challenges of resolution 1325 (2000).
