La tradizione cambia un po’ in tutto il nord Italia, ma sembra che l’origine sia comune e che il nome derivi da Giove (giovedì) e che il nome “giubiana” rappresentasse le feste contadine che ogni inverno venivano organizzate per influenzare in positivo la rinascita della natura, proprio nel periodo della semina.
Tradition changes a bit throughout northern Italy, but it seems that the origin is common and that the name “Giubiana” comes from Jupiter (Thursday) and that it represented the country festivals that were organized every winter to influence positively the rebirth of nature, just at the time of sowing.

Giubiana sembra infatti che derivi dalla parola “Giovedì” detta in dialetto piemontese, cioè “Giòbia”, mentre qui da noi si dice “Giuedì”.
