Nato ad Alessandria il 5 gennaio 1932, Umberto Eco ha studiato all’Università di Torino con Luigi Pareyson, laureandosi nel 1954 con una tesi sull’estetica di Tommaso d’Aquino, pubblicata poi nel 1956.

Luigi Pareyson (Piasco 1918 – Milano 1991), titolare dagli anni cinquanta della cattedra di estetica presso l’Università di Torino, dove avrebbe creato una scuola estetologica tra le più feconde d’Italia, è stato tra i primi e maggiori interpreti dell’esistenzialismo (La filosofia dell’esistenza e Karl Jaspers, 1940; Studi sull’esistenzialismo, 1943) e dell’idealismo tedesco (Fichte, 1950; Schelling, 1975), elaborando poi una originale forma di personalismo, che trova maggiore compiutezza nel volume Esistenza e persona del 1950.
Luigi Pareyson (Piasco 1918 – Milano 1991) since the 1950s was full professor of aesthetics at University of Turin. He was in Italy one of the earliest and greatest interpreters of Existentialism (La filosofia dell’esistenza e Karl Jaspers, 1940; Studi sull’esistenzialismo, 1943) and German Idealism (Fichte, 1950; Schelling, 1975) and developed an original form of Personalism (see the book Esistenza e persona, 1950).
