In augustus 2019 is een uitbraak van Afrikaanse varkenspest vastgesteld bij tamme varkens in de regio Blagoevgrad en zijn er drie gevallen vastgesteld bij wilde varkens in de gebieden Smolyan en Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgarije in gebieden die momenteel zijn opgenomen in de lijst in deel I van de bijlage bij Uitvoeringsbesluit 2014/709/EU, en in de regio Shumen in de onmiddellijke nabijheid van een gebied dat momenteel is opgenomen in de lijst in deel I van de bijlage bij die verordening.
In August 2019, one outbreak of African swine fever was observed in domestic pigs in the region of Blagoevgrad and three cases in feral pigs were observed in the regions of Smolyan and Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria in areas currently listed in Part I of the Annex to Implementing Decision 2014/709/EU, and in the region of Shumen in close proximity to an area currently listed in Part I of the Annex thereto.

Gezien de huidige epidemiologische situatie in Bulgarije wat betreft de ziekte van Newcastle en daar dat land bepaalde ziektebestrijdingsmaatregelen heeft getroffen en nadere informatie over de ziektesituatie aan de Commissie heeft gezonden, waaruit blijkt dat de situatie in Bulgarije, afgezien van de administratieve districten Vratsa en Blagoevgrad, nog bevredigend is, moet de opschorting van de invoer tot die districten worden beperkt en moet de toepassingsduur van Beschikking 2005/648/EG worden verlengd.
On the basis of this information, it appears that the situation in Bulgaria, except for the regions of Vratsa and Blagoevgrad is still satisfactory. It is therefore appropriate to limit the suspension of imports to those regions and to prolong the period of application of Decision 2005/648/EC.
