Its regime for foreign investments in the automotive sector initiated in 2005 ("TRIMs 1")(1) and extended to car components in 2006(2) was made more stringent in 2010 ("TRIMs 2")(3) to the point that it would have been, upon Russia's accession to the WTO, declared contrary to the WTO Agreement on Trade-Related Investment Measures (TRIMs) which forbids the investment measures in goods' production that can cause trade-restrictive and distorting effects.
