During a visit to Kandhamal, Odisha, in 2011 I first came into contact with the Kui language. As a language teacher (Spanish) I am interested in languages and in learning languages. I started to collect whatever was available to learn this language and I was lucky to have a good friend in Kandhamal who was willing to help me with this endeavour. Kui has no official script and spelling yet, but the Odia script is mostly used nowadays. In academic papers Kui is written in the Latin script. I am using the spelling as found in the Grammar (1928) and Vocabulary (1929) of W.W. Winfield. Whenever I found a word in a different spelling, I added the alternative spelling between brackets, e.g. vēla [ve:la, be:la, bela]. In the future I hope the spelling in the Odia script can be added as well. As for the reference of the source of the example sentences, usually there is an indication about the year of publication of the book or article, e.g. GD1990, or in which year I received the word from an oral source, most frequently from my Kui-speaking friend in Raikia, e.g. ND2014. The year gives an indication whether and how the word is still used nowadays. Glosbe has proven to be a great tool to create a dictionary with more than just individual words: collocations are shown as well and the example sentences with their translation constitute an ever-growing bilingual corpus that enables to user to study the usage of words in context.
