In specific situations where exposure to lead has been assessed, the Commission has put in place measures to replace lead in petrol, in paints (8th amendment of Council Directive 76/769/EEC of 27 July 1976 on the approximation of the laws, regulations and administrative provisions of the Member States relating to restrictions on the marketing and use of certain dangerous substances and preparations(2)), in vehicles (under Directive 2000/53/EC of the Parliament and of the Council of 18 September 2000 on end-of life vehicles(3)), and to impose limits on the concentration of lead in the air (Council Directive 82/884/EEC of 3 December 1982 on a limit value for lead in the air(4)), and in water (Council Directive 98/83/EEC of 3 November 1998 on the quality of water intended for human consumption(5)).
