Kung Ussia (829–778 f.v.t.) gjorde stadens försvarsverk betydligt starkare. Han byggde torn vid Hörnporten (i nordväst) och vid Dalporten (i det sydvästra hörnet) och dessutom vid ”Strävpelaren” (”Vinkeln”, SFB, Åk, 1917; ”murvinkeln”, 2000), som uppenbarligen var en del av den östra muren inte långt från de kungliga byggnaderna, antingen Davids eller Salomos.
King Uzziah (829-778 B.C.E.) made notable additions to the city’s defenses, fortifying the (NW) Corner Gate and the Valley Gate (at the SW corner) with towers, as well as a tower at “the Buttress” (“the Angle,” RS, JB; “the Turning,” JP), apparently some part of the eastern wall not far from the royal buildings, either those of David or of Solomon.jw2019 jw2019
