When the driver requires more power, e.g. in non-idling operation or in the neighbourhood of full-load running, a stoichiometric mixture is supplied, in which, during the transition, the change in torque owing to the change in the fuel-air mixture is substantially offset by a corresponding adjustment of the air supply to the internal combustion engine.
