استُذكر أن اللجنة الفرعية العلمية والتقنية التابعة للجنة اتفقت عام 2004 على أن الفيزياء الشمسية والأرضية تعد مهمة في استكشاف الهالة الشمسية وفهم وظيفة الشمس؛ وفهم ما يمكن أن يحدثه تغير أحوال الشمس من تأثيرات على غلاف الأرضي المغنطيسي وبيئتها ومناخها؛ واستكشاف البيئات المتأيِّنة للكواكب؛ وتحديد حدود الغلاف الشمسي وفهم تفاعله مع الفضاء الواقع ما بين النجوم.

It was recalled that in 2004, the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the Committee had agreed that solar-terrestrial physics was important in exploring the solar corona and understanding the functioning of the Sun; understanding the effects that the variability of the Sun can have on the Earth’s magnetosphere, environment and climate; exploring the ionized environments of planets; and reaching the limits of the heliosphere and understanding its interaction with interstellar space.

Se recordó que en 2004 la Subcomisión de Asuntos Científicos y Técnicos de la Comisión había estado de acuerdo en que la física solar-terrestre era importante para explorar la corona solar y entender el funcionamiento del Sol; comprender los efectos que la variabilidad del Sol podía tener en la magnetosfera, el medio ambiente y el clima de la Tierra; explorar los medios ionizados de los planetas; y llegar a las fronteras de la heliosfera y entender su interacción con el espacio interestelar.

Il a été rappelé qu’en 2004, le Sous-Comité scientifique et technique du Comité était convenu que l’étude des interactions Soleil-Terre était importante pour pouvoir explorer la couronne solaire et comprendre le fonctionnement du Soleil; comprendre les effets que la variabilité du Soleil peut avoir sur la magnétosphère, l’environnement et le climat de la Terre et explorer les milieux ionisés des planètes, ainsi que pour atteindre les limites de l’héliosphère et comprendre son interaction avec l’espace interstellaire.

Было указано, что в 2004 году Научно-технический подкомитет Комитета признал важность солнечно-земной физики в исследовании солнечной короны и углублении понимания функций Солнца и влияния колебаний солнечной активности на магнитосферу, окружающую среду и климат Земли; исследовании ионосферы планет; определении границ гелиосферы и изучении ее взаимодействия с межзвездным пространством.
