وإذا حملت تباينات التجارة الدولية دول الذرة والرقاق على بيع عرق عملها الشاق بثمن بخس بغية أن تدفع مبالغ كبيرة عن السلع والإمدادات المستوردة من البلدان المصنعة، فإن الأكثر إيلاما هو أن يضاف بالفعل إلى ذلك التبادل الظالم الإعانات وتحديد الحصص والتعريفات الجمركية والعقبات أمام منتجاتنا التصديرية، وكل واحد منها بارع أكثر مما سبقه.

If the disparities of international trade force the corn-and-tortilla nations to sell the sweat of their strenuous labour cheaply in order to pay dearly for goods and supplies imported from industrialized countries, it is insult added to injury that to that already unfair exchange are added subsidies, quotas, tariffs and barriers to our export products, each more ingenious than the last.

Si ya la disparidad del comercio internacional obliga a las naciones del maíz y de la tortilla a vender barato el sudor de su extenuante trabajo, para pagar caro los insumos y bienes importados de los países industrializados, nos llueve sobre mojado, cuando agregado a este injusto intercambio, aplican subsidios, cuotas, aranceles y trabas, a cual más ingeniosa, a nuestros productos de exportación.
