Using a damping device in connection with levelling floor joists by means of wedges, where wedges of various designs are displaced across the floor joist during levelling so that the floor joist firmly rests horizontally on a substantially horizontal wedge surface, said damping device comprising a damping element made of a resilient, elastic material for damping the sound of steps ensures step damping and sound proofing for e.g. floor joists levelled by wedges, while simultaneously avoiding the disadvantages of the prior art.
