Since the first Gulf War, the situation of Christians in Iraq has steadily deteriorated, in particular following the invasion of the country by the US-led coalition in 2003, which sparked an upsurge in anti-Western sentiment and brought radical Islamist groups to the fore. In 10 years, the Christian community in Iraq has reportedly shrunk by 90%.

Depuis la première guerre du Golfe, la situation des chrétiens en Irak n'a cessé de se dégrader, notamment depuis l'invasion du pays par la coalition menée par les États-Unis en 2003 et la montée en puissance des sentiments anti-occidentaux et des groupes islamistes radicaux. 90 % de la population chrétienne d'Irak aurait ainsi disparu en 10 ans.
