Concurrently, with the establishment of the African Commission, the government of The Gambia provided seed money for the establishment of the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) as an independent regional organization mandated to promote human rights through teaching, research, publication and documentation and to assist the African Commission in its promotional activities.
