Part of the Balearic Islands autonomous region, Ibiza and its smaller sister island of Formentera are known as the "Illes Pitiuses" (from the Greek word "pitys" meaning pine tree) because of the abundance of pines that cover their landscapes.

Parte de las Islas Baleares, Ibiza y Formentera forman un archipiélago conocido como las Islas Pitiusas (De la palabra Griega “Pitys” significando Pino) por la abundancia de los Pinos que cubre el paisaje. La ciudad de Ibiza y su centro histórico amurallado Renacentista, y el estrecho que separa Ibiza de Formentera, son ambos listado como Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, tanto por sus valor cultural como natural.
