Μια πρώτη ανάγνωση της διήγησης της ίδρυσης της πόλεως των Πατρών μέσα στην Περιήγηση μας δείχνει ότι ο Παυσανίας δέχεται δύο περιόδους στην αρχαία ιστορία αυτής: η πρώτη αρχίζει με την ίδρυση των τριών κωμών της Αρόης, της Άνθειας και της Μεσάτιδας και η δεύτερη με αυτή της πόλεως των Πατρών.

A first look at the narration provided by Periegesis regarding the foundation of the city of Patras suggests that Pausanias divides the city’s ancient history into two periods; the foundation of the three settlements of Aroe, Antheia and Messatis signals the first period, while that of the city of Patras the second.
