There are two types of sweat glands: the eccrine sweat glands, which are present throughout the body and which are responsible for thermoregulation and the apocrine sweat glands, which are found in the armpits, around the nipples, and in the groin and which produce odourless secretions that develop a characteristic odour when broken down by bacteria, and pheromone-like compounds.
