These rights are included in Article 6bis of the Berne Convention as follows: Independent of the author's economic rights, and even after the transfer of the said rights, the author shall have the right to claim authorship of the work and to object to any distortion, modification of, or other derogatory action in relation to the said work, which would be prejudicial to the author's honor or reputation.

Artikel 6bis i konventionen säger om ideell upphovsrätt (eng moral rights): Oberoende av upphovsmannens ekonomiska rättigheter, och även efter överföringen av sagda rättighet, skall författaren ha rätt att kräva författarskap över verket och protestera mot förvrängningar, ändringar eller andra nedsättande handlingar i relation till sagda arbete, vilket skulle vara skadligt för upphovsmannens ära eller anseende.
