As was proclaimed in the Declaration of Principles on Tolerance, adopted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1995, tolerance, considered as “harmony in difference”, was based on acceptance of diversity, which constituted a source of riches rather than a threat to humanity, and on social harmony.
