This article attempts to a) analyze the nature and basic aspects of virtual learning communities and collaborative virtual learning groups, and b) report on the progress and limitations of three research and development projects at the UAM-Xochimilco. These are; 1) The UAM electronic network for virtual training of instructors and researchers in systems for distance learning in higher education (SESAD).

Por lo que pretendemos: a) analizar la naturaleza y aspectos básicos de las comunidades virtuales de aprendizaje (CVA) y los grupos virtuales de aprendizaje colaborativo (GVAC), y b) registrar los avances y las limitaciones de tres proyectos de investigación y desarrollo de la UAM-Xochimilco: 1) Red electrónica de la UAM para la formación virtual de tutores e investigadores de los sistemas de educación superior a distancia (SESAD).
