Michael Sanderling is to be the new chief conductor of the Dresden Philharmonic, succeeding Rafael Fruehbeck de Burgos, in the post since 2004. The son of conductor Kurt Sanderling, Michael is known primarily as a cellist; he first conducted publicly in 2001, a concert with the Kammerorchester Berlin. In 2006, he was named artistic director of the Potsdam Kammerakademie.
