The Mandeville Lecture, named after the Rotterdam-born philosopher and doctor Bernard Mandeville (1670-1733), is a joint initiative of Erasmus University Rotterdam, Rotterdam's business community (Club Rotterdam) and Erasmus Trustfonds. The first lecture was given in 1988. The Mandeville Lecture is given by individuals who have outstanding social achievements to their name and is the social equivalent of an honorary degree awarded by Erasmus University Rotterdam for academic achievement.

De twintigste Mandeville Lezing is een initiatief van de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, het Rotterdamse bedrijfsleven (Club Rotterdam) en het Erasmus Trustfonds, verenigd in de Bernard Mandeville Stichting. De Mandeville Lezing is vernoemd naar de in Rotterdam geboren filosoof en arts Bernard Mandeville (1670-1733) en is een blijk van waardering voor de grote maatschappelijke verdiensten van een persoon uit binnen- of buitenland.
