ولوقف انتشار المرض، ذبح ما يقرب من 500 ألف خنزير، مما تسبب في إلحاق أضرار بالاقتصاد قدرت بالملايين تمثلت في ذبح وإحراق الماشية، ونفقات حملة التوعية، وتقديم تعويضات للمنتجين بالقطاع الخاص، وما لحق من أضرار بجودة القطعان واحتمالات تكاثرها.

To prevent the disease spreading, some 500,000 pigs had to be destroyed, which entailed the loss of millions of pesos to the Cuban economy through the loss of the animals themselves, the slaughtering costs, the costs of conducting the campaign, the payment of compensation to private farmers, and the impact on the quality of the national herd and on its future development.
