Spektakulär sind die prachtvoll illuminierten Handschriften von der Klosterinsel Reichenau im Bodensee, die um das Jahr 1000 im Auftrag der Kaiser Otto III. und Heinrich II. entstanden. Zwei davon gehören zur Gruppe der Reichenauer Handschriften, die schon 2003 in das UNESCO-Weltdokumentenerbe aufgenommen wurden: das Hohelied und der Kommentar zum Buch Daniel sowie die berühmte Bamberger Apokalypse mit ihrem Zyklus von 50 Miniaturen.

Other highlights are the wonderfully illuminated manuscripts from the Abbey of Reichenau in Bodensee that commissioned by Emperor Otto III and Henry II a round 1000 C.E. Two of them belong to the group of Reichenau manuscripts, which were already included in the UNESCO World Documentary Heritage in 2003: Commentary to the Song of Songs, as well as the famous Bamberg Apocalypse with its cycle of 50 miniatures.
