أود أن أُبلغكم أنه في أعقاب التصويت الشكلي الرابع الذي أجري في 2 تشرين الأول/ أكتوبر 2006، قرر سوراكيرات ساثيراسيا، المرشح عن رابطة أمم جنوب شرق آسيا لمنصب الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، أن يسحب ترشيحه، وذلك لتيسير عملية اختيار الأمين العام المقبل.

I wish to inform you that following the fourth straw poll, held on 2 October 2006, Surakiart Sathirathai, the candidate of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations for the post of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, has decided to withdraw his candidature in order to facilitate the selection process for the next Secretary-General.

Deseo informarle de que tras la cuarta votación oficiosa, el 2 de octubre de 2006, Surakiart Sathirathai, candidato de la Asociación de Naciones del Asia Sudoriental al puesto de Secretario General de las Naciones Unidas, ha decidido retirar su candidatura para facilitar el proceso de selección del próximo Secretario General.
