Es, por lo tanto, necesario que quien ha de medirse con todos, conozca las armas y los procedimientos de todos y sepa ser a la vez arquero y hondero, tribuno y jefe de cohorte, general y soldado, infante y caballero, apto para luchar en el mar y para derribar murallas; porque, si no conoce todos los medios de combatir, el diablo sabe, introduciendo a sus raptores por un solo punto en el caso de que uno solo quedare sin defensa, arrebatar las ovejas»[49].

Per questo è necessario che colui che dovrà combattere con ogni sorta di nemici abbia profonda conoscenza di tutti gli strumenti e arti degli avversari, da essere così nello stesso tempo e arciere e fromboliere, tribuno e condottiero, duce e soldato, fante e cavaliere, perito di guerre navali e di città assediate: se infatti egli non conoscerà tutte le arti del combattere, ben saprà il diavolo, qualora anche una sola parte venisse lasciata indifesa, far penetrare per quella i suoi predoni e dilaniare il gregge".
