وأسفر هذا الجهد عن مساهمة سنوية متوسطها حوالي مليون دولار كندي على مدى السنوات المالية الثلاث الأخيرة، واشتمل على مواصلة تطوير معدات التحقق من مجمعات الوقود المستهلك في مفاعلات الماء الخفيف وتكييفها للاستخدام في محطة فوكوشيما داييشي للطاقة النووية، ووضع نظم جديدة لرصد المفاعلات التي يعاد تزويدها بالوقود أثناء التشغيل، وتطوير تكنولوجيا الليزر للكشف عن المواد النووية، وتقديم الدعم لتحسين العمليات التي تضطلع بها الوكالة من أجل استخلاص استنتاجات تتعلق بالضمانات.

This effort resulted in an average annual contribution of approximately C$1 million over the last three fiscal years and included the further development of equipment for the verification of spent fuel assemblies at light water reactors and its adaptation for use at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, new systems for the monitoring of on-load refuelled reactors, development of laser technology for nuclear material identification, and support for improving the IAEA’s processes in drawing safeguards conclusions.

Gracias a esa iniciativa, la contribución anual del Canadá fue de un promedio de alrededor de 1 millón de dólares canadienses durante los tres últimos ejercicios económicos e incluyó el perfeccionamiento de equipo para la verificación de conjuntos combustibles gastados en reactores de agua ligera y su adaptación para usarlo en la central nuclear de Fukushima Daiichi, nuevos sistemas para supervisar reactores recargados en servicio, el desarrollo de tecnología láser para detectar material nuclear y el apoyo a la mejora de los procesos que sigue el OIEA para formular conclusiones sobre salvaguardias.
