Hulle is bekommerd oor ons vermoë om die demokratiese regte en die demokratiese Grondwet wat uit enorme opofferings gebore is, te beskerm. Hierdie kommer word aangevuur deur verwikkelings soos die vervolging van die Nasionale Kommisaris van die Polisie, die skorsing van die Nasionale Direkteur van Openbare Vervolging, en vrese rondom die bedreiging van die onafhankliheid van die regstelsel en landswette, en die huidige aantygings oor die misbruik van regeringsmagte vir politieke doeleindes

They are worried about whether we have the capacity to defend the democratic rights and the democratic Constitution which were born of enormous sacrifices. This is driven by such developments as the prosecution of the National Commissioner of Police, the suspension of the National Director of Public Prosecutions, fears about a threat to the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law, and the attendant allegations about the abuse of state power for political purposes
