Ken Froland received the honour for his efforts and sacrifices in the liberation of Europe, the Netherlands, and Hoevelaken during World War II, and also for his important contribution to the effort to discover the man behind the name Walter Strang, the Scottish-Canadian soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice in the liberation of Hoevelaken on April 19, 1945.
