This text constitutes a summary of the state of knowledge of the biology, fishing and attempts at ex situ breeding in the Colombian Caribbean of the gastropod mollusk Strombus gigas Linnaeus, 1758 (queen conch), emphasizing the use made of it by non-commercial and commercial fisheries.

Se presenta una síntesis del estado de conocimiento de la biología, la pesquería y los ensayos de cultivo ex situ en el Caribe colombiano del molusco gastrópodo Strombus gigas Linnæus, 1758 (caracol de pala), y se resalta el aprovechamiento que se hace del recurso por parte de la pesca artesanal e industrial.
