Iraqi authorities have claimed that the defenders of Zarqa were members of the 'Soldiers of Heaven', a Shiite splinter group, which was conspiring to attack the Ashura religious festival in Najaf on Monday and assassinate the top Shiite clergy, including religious leader Ali al-Sistani.
