Wenn der Westen den Eindruck macht, sich in Formen einer wachsenden egoistischen Isolierung zurückzuziehen, und der Osten seinerseits aus fragwürdigen Gründen die eigene Verpflichtung zu ignorieren scheint, den Einsatz für die Erleichterung des Elends der Völker mitzutragen, handelt es sich nicht nur um einen Verrat an den berechtigten Erwartungen der Menschheit, der unvorhersehbare Folgen ahnen läßt, sondern um ein echtes Versagen vor einer moralischen Verpflichtung.

When the West gives the impression of abandoning itself to forms of growing and selfish isolation, and the East in its turn seems to ignore for questionable reasons its duty to cooperate in the task of alleviating human misery, then we are up against not only a betrayal of humanity's legitimate expectations - a betrayal that is a harbinger of unforeseeable consequences - but also a real desertion of a moral obligation.
