Of the 1278 M1 offspring, 675 were eliminated without test, because they were either 1) hairy necked and therefore possessing a maternal 5B that would have hidden any deficiencies present in the X-rayed 5B; 2) nullisomic in appearance and thus likely to have a badly damaged 5B; or 3) completely or nearly male sterile, which precluded the recovery homozygous of any mutant that might have been present.

Parmi les 1278 descendants M1, 675 ont été éliminés sans vérification parce qu'ils étaient : 1) porteurs de "Hairy-Neck", donc possédant un 5B maternel qui aurait dissimulé toutes les différences présentes chez les 5B traités aux rayons-X; 2) apparemment nullisomiques et donc susceptibles de porter un 5B très endommagé; 3) complètement ou presque complètement stérile mâles, ce qui aurait empêché le relèvement des mutants homozygotes possibles.
