وفي عام 1997، سُنّ قانون حماية التراث الثقافي بهدف حماية وصون مكونات التراث الثقافي المنتشرة في شتى أنحاء الإقليم الوطني وفي المياه الإقليمية الهندوراسية، والمطالبة باستعادتها وإنقاذها وترميمها ورعايتها والبحث فيها والتعريف بها وتطويرها، وتوريث الأجيال القادمة إياها.

In 1997 the Cultural Heritage Protection Act was passed, with the aim of defending, conserving, reclaiming, rescuing, restoring, protecting, researching, publicizing and extending the constituent parts of the nation’s cultural heritage to be found throughout the national territory and in Honduran territorial waters, and passing them on to future generations.

En el año 1997 se crea la Ley para la Protección del Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación, la cual tiene como objeto la defensa, conservación, reivindicación, rescate, restauración, protección, investigación, divulgación, acrecentamiento y transmisión a las generaciones futuras, de los bienes que constituye el patrimonio cultural de la nación en todo el territorio nacional y en las aguas jurisdiccionales.
