chiffchaff is brighter, greener on the rump, and yellower below than P. collybita,[5] and has a tit-tit-tit-tswee-tswee song. It was initially named P. brehmii, but the type specimen of that taxon is not an Iberian chiffchaff.[18] This species is found in Portugal and Spain, west of a line stretching roughly from the western Pyrenees[19] via the mountains of central Spain to the Mediterranean; the Iberian and common chiffchaffs co-occur in a narrow band along this line.[20] Apart from the northernmost section, the precise course of the contact zone is not well documented.

P. ibericus, el mosquitero ibérico, es de colores más vivos, con el obispillo más verdoso y más amarillento en las zonas inferiores que P. collybita.[8] Inicialmente fue nombrado P. brehmii, pero el ejemplar tipo de este taxón resultó no ser el de un mosquitero ibérico.[18] Esta especie se encuentra en Portugal y España, al oeste de una línea que se extiende aproximadamente desde el Pirineo Occidental,[19] a través de las montañas de España central, hasta el Mediterráneo; los mosquiteros ibéricos y los mosquiteros comunes se dan en bandadas reducidas a lo largo de esta línea.[20] Aparte de la sección más nórdica, el curso preciso de la zona de contacto no está bien documentado.
